جناب آقای رئیس جمهور ترامپ،
تاریخ سرشار از درس های مهمی درباره مقاطعی است که در آن، سخنان و پیام های رهبران ایالات متحده، تأثیری عمیق بر تصمیمات ملت های تحت ستم بر جای گذاشته است. در سال ۱۹۹۱ و در جریان جنگ خلیج فارس، رئیس جمهور وقت آمریکا، جورج اچ. دبلیو. بوش، مردم عراق را به قیام علیه صدام حسین فراخواند. بسیاری، به ویژه در مناطق کردنشین شمال و در جنوب عراق، با شجاعت به این فراخوان پاسخ دادند و بر این باور بودند که ایالات متحده از آنان پشتیبانی خواهد کرد. پیامدهای تلخی که پس از آن رخ داد—از جمله سرکوب گسترده و فاجعه های انسانی—همچنان یادآور هزینه های سنگینی است که زمانی پدید می آید که انتظارات ایجاد شده از سوی رهبری، با حمایت و پیگیری عملی همراه نمی شود. تاریخ، از آن مقطع به نیکی یاد نمی کند.
در هفته گذشته، جنابعالی در چندین نوبت هشدارهایی صریح و غیرقابل تفسیر به جمهوری اسلامی صادر کردید و خواستار خویشتن داری شدید و به روشنی اعلام نمودید که ایالات متحده در برابر خشونت گسترده علیه مردم ایران بی تفاوت نخواهد ماند. این اظهارات در ایران به طور گسترده شنیده شد. در پی همین پیام ها، ایرانیان بار دیگر با اطمینان بیشتری برای پایان دادن به سرکوب و برپایی کشوری سکولار و مستقل به پا خاستند. بسیاری بهای این شجاعت را با جان خود پرداخته اند.
در حالی که میلیون ها ایرانی برای واداشتن به فروپاشی جمهوری اسلامی به خیابان ها آمده و آشکارا خواستار بازگشت شاهزاده رضا پهلوی، شده اند، گزارش های معتبری دریافت می کنیم که نشان می دهد سپاه پاسداران انقلاب اسلامی با وارد کردن نیروهای مسلح شبه نظامی از عراق، سرکوب معترضان ایرانی را تشدید کرده است؛ آن هم در شرایطی که توانمندی های قابل توجه نظامی ایالات متحده همچنان در منطقه مستقر است. برای بسیاری از ایرانیان، این نابرابری میان شدت سرکوب و نبود بازدارندگی آشکار، عمیقاً نگران کننده است و خطر زنده شدن خاطرات دردناک تاریخی را در پی دارد.
آقای رئیس جمهور، معترضان ایرانی که در پی پایان دادن به حاکمیت جمهوری اسلامی هستند، همچنان امیدوارانه به پشتیانی شما می نگرند. آنان باور دارند که هم سویی میان گفتار و عمل می تواند جان انسان ها را نجات دهد و مسیر تاریخ را به شکلی مثبت تغییر دهد. چنانچه جمهوری اسلامی در دوران رهبری شما، با اراده ملت ایران و با پشتیبانی معنادار ایالات متحده، فرو بپاشد، نقش شما به عنوان رهبری که در لحظه ای سرنوشت ساز، قدرت آمریکا را در خدمت آرمان آزادی قرار داد، در تاریخ ثبت خواهد شد.
با احترام، ایرانیان از شما انتظار دارند که به وعده های خود عمل کنید و اطمینان حاصل کنید که کسانی که در پاسخ به ندای آزادی قیام می کنند، در معرض سرکوب و خشونت قرار نگیرند.

A Respectful Appeal to Honor Your Commitment to the Iranians
Dear President Trump,
History offers powerful lessons about moments when the words and signals of American leadership profoundly shaped the choices of oppressed peoples. In 1991, during the Gulf War, President George H. W. Bush called on Iraqis to rise against Saddam Hussein. Many did so with courage, particularly in the Kurdish north and the south, believing that the United States would stand by them. The tragic consequences that followed—marked by severe repression and humanitarian catastrophe—remain a sobering reminder of the costs that arise when expectations raised by leadership are not matched by protection or follow-through. History is not reflecting favorably on that episode.
In the past week, on several occasions, you issued strong and unmistakable warnings to the Islamic Republic, urging restraint and clearly stating that the United States would not remain indifferent to mass violence against the Iranian people. These statements were widely heard in Iran. In the wake of these messages, Iranians once again rose up with greater confidence to end repression and establish a secular and independent state. Many have paid the price for this courage with their lives.
As millions of Iranians have taken to the streets to force the collapse of the Islamic Republic and openly demand the return of Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi, we are receiving credible reports that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is reinforcing its crackdown by importing armed militias from Iraq to suppress Iranian protesters, while substantial U.S. military capabilities remain deployed in the region. To many Iranians, this disparity between the scale of repression and the absence of visible deterrence is deeply unsettling and risks reviving painful historical memories.
Mr. President, Iranian protesters who seek to end the rule of the Islamic Republic continue to look to your leadership with hope. They believe that consistency between words and action can save lives and shape history for the better. Should the Islamic Republic fall during your leadership, through the determination of the Iranian people and with meaningful American support, your role would be remembered as one that helped align U.S. power with the cause of freedom at a decisive moment.
